Volleyball Sweeps South Region Play Over the Weekend
Volleyball participated in the South Region Kickoff Tournament hosted by Pensacola Christian College this weekend. After a shaky start to the season, the women's team put it all together facing NCCAA DII competition this weekend.
Coming into the weekend, the Screaming Eagles faced tough competition, starting the season 1-3, but that was all about to change. Making her first start, freshman Julia Mindel showed off why Coach Torres was so excited to sign her. "Julia didn't let a ball hit the floor this weekend" Coach Torres boasted after the games. "And the back row really took over this weekend. We knew we would produce from the front row, but the team really came together making all six positions a force to be reckoned with this weekend."
After rolling through Trinity Baptist College (25-12,25-17,25-11), Johnson University of Florida (25-22,25-21,27-25) and Trinity College of Florida (25-8,25-8,25-11), the Screaming Eagles took on #2 Pensacola Christian College in their own gym. The first two sets (25-18,25-14) went like the rest of the weekend, extending their sets won streak to 11 in a row, before the #2 nationally ranked team found a set (16-25). But as they did several times against Johnson University of Florida, coming back down 17-21 twice, their resilience proved strong, winning the final set of the weekend (25-22).
The Screaming Eagles Volleyball Team will take the momentum to a scrimmage at Reinhardt on Tuesday, before returning for two home games in a row. Come out on Thursday and Saturday to see your Screaming Eagles take on Agnus Scott (6pm) and Piedmont (6pm) respectively.
