Cross Country Races Towards PR's
Beaufort, SC—The Cross Country team traveled to South Carolina to race in the Sandshark Invitational this past weekend. Both teams ran exceptionally well, with six runners reaching an overall performance record, and three runners reaching a season performance record.
The Women' Cross Country team raced against 4 other teams in their region, and placed 4th overall. Jamie Smith (SR/Toccoa, GA) placed 4th overall in the region with a personal record of 20:49, and secured a spot as a 1st Team All Region member. Mackenzie Murley (JR/Toccoa, GA) finished in 14th overall in the region, setting a season personal record with a time of 21:59, which secured her spot as 2nd Team All-Region. Jessie Smith (SO/Toccoa, GA) had a personal record time, finishing in 23:24. Mindy Cooperrider (SR/Ashland, OH) finished in 25:54, which is her personal record. Amber Dennis (SO/Mineral Springs, NC) also set a personal record, finishing the race in 25:42.
The Men' Cross Country team was able to improve upon their individual times in the meet as well. Stephen King (FR/Clayton, GA) set a personal record time on the course, finishing in 30:20. Jonathan Milano (FR/Waterloo, IA) also set a personal record time, as he finished in 35:54. Thomas Totherow (SO/Dalton, GA) has a season personal record, finishing in 33:14. Mitchell Thomas (SR/Juliette, GA) was not far behind Totherow, as he finished in 34:17.
The Men' and Women' teams have one more meet before the National Meet. They will host eight teams in the Toccoa Falls College Screaming Eagles Invitational on Saturday, October 29th. The women' race begins at 9:00am, with the men starting at 10:00am. Come out and support your Screaming Eagles as they have one last chance to qualify for Nationals!
