Cross Country Finds Victory at Warren Wilson
Ashville, NC--The Cross Country teams traveled to Warren Wilson College on Friday evening to compete in a dual meet against the Warren Wilson Owls.
The Women' team raced very well against the Owls. Jamie Smith (SR/Toccoa, GA) achieved her best finish of the season thus far, finishing in first overall. Her final time was 23:17. Although this was not a personal best time for Jamie, the race was on a tough course that went in and out of the woods. Mackenzie Murley (JR/Toccoa, GA) finished the course with the time of 24:34. Jessie Smith (SO/Toccoa, GA) had a time of 27:29. Amber Dennis (SO/Mineral Springs, NC) had a time of 28:19. Mindy Cooperrider (SR/Ashland, OH) rounded out the Women' team with the time of 32:14.
The Men' team also raced well, with four team members competing in this meet. Stephen King (FR/Clayton, GA) had the best time for his team, finishing the 8K in 32:48. This was a 7th place finish for King. One minute behind King was Timothy Sestak (SR/Grove City, PA), coming in 9th place, with the time of 33:50. Mitchell Thomas (SR/Juliette, GA) has his season-best time of 35:24. Thomas Totherow (SO/Dalton, GA) clocked a time of 37:13.
This race marked the first time for either team this season that Screaming Eagle' team member was able to win the meet. Congrats again to Jamie Smith on her first place finish! Both teams will have a couple of weeks off before traveling to Beaufort, South Carolina to compete in the Sandshark Invitational on October 22nd. The Cross Country team can also be spotted at the Homecoming 5K on Saturday morning, October 8th.
