Sydney VanHorn was selected as the November Athlete of the Month!
Sydney is a junior who hails from Redondo Beach, California. Her family relocated to Houston, Texas where her dad, Ty VanHorn, is a pastor at Northwest Bible Church. Sydney’s mother has the joy of being a full time mother and wife to their family of eight children.
When the VanHorns were in California, Sydney began playing soccer on recreational teams. She tried other sports, but nothing quite grabbed her attention like the game of soccer. Soccer became a challenging and rewarding sport for Sydney. She enjoyed the team aspect of working hard for other people. Sydney still plays the game with the same passion and joy that she did as a young girl.
Head Coach Mary Elise Masters had the pleasure of coaching Sydney for the past two seasons. She said, “Sydney is a great example of high character on and off the field. This year she was an integral part of our team, on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.”
Sydney chose to come to Toccoa Falls College with her twin brother, Seth and their older sister Jordan. With her dad, Ty VanHorn, being an alum, she always knew about TFC. The Lord led Sydney to TFC in pretty phenomenal ways and she loves being here. She is currently studying Counseling/Psychology.
Outside of soccer, Sydney is very involved in TFC student life and in the community of Toccoa. She serves as the Vice President of Toccoa Falls for Life, an organization that promotes and educates students on campus about the pro-life movement. Sydney is also a volunteer counselor at Toccoa Crisis Pregnancy Resource Center.
After graduation, Sydney plans on staying involved in pro-life ministry and pursuing a degree in medical diagnostic sonography. Sydney said, “I want to work in the pro-life movement in the long run, so I plan on combining my counseling psychology degree from TFC with a profession in performing ultrasounds to minister to women considering having an abortion.”
Congratulations to Sydney on earning this honor!
