Toccoa, GA.- The Women's Volleyball team hosted Agnes Scott College Tuesday evening. The Screaming Eagles were able to improve their overall season 9-3 after the match against the Scotties. The match was a back and forth affair between both teams.
In the first and second sets of the match, both teams played very hard and were able to keep up with each other. The Screaming Eagles played great defense and were able to cover their side of the court well. Marissa Daniel (FR/Bethlehem, GA) the libero for the Screaming Eagles had a great game defensively totaling with 14 digs. The freshman really stepped up her game when her team needed her. She was a crucial part of the big win against the Scotties. The Screaming Eagle's took the first set 25-19. The second set was a tough loss for the Screaming Eagles, resulting in the final score being 25-22.
The third set for the Screaming Eagles was a shutout against the Scotties. The Screaming Eagles were able to gain a huge lead, and the Scotties were never able to recover. The final score of the set was 25-11. Kaitlin Weidner (SR/Corry, PA) played great offensively totaling with 15 kills for the night.
The Screaming Eagles had to fight harder in the fourth set so that they could claim the win. After coming off such a great win from the third set the Screaming Eagles had a lot of momentum and were able to use that to gain a victory in the fourth set, resulting in the final score 25-19.
Head Coach Selina Slate had this to say after the match, "This is a big win for us. I'm very pleased with the way the ladies played tonight. Defensively we really stepped up tonight. We had numerous girls with double-digit digs. We did a great job at the net getting hands on balls. The ladies are really starting to come together. We have a big test coming up this Thursday when we play Randall University The number two ranked team in NCCAA DII then with the tri-match on Saturday and on Monday we host Johnson University of Tennessee that is also ranked in the top 10".
