Greenville, SC- The Women's Volleyball team traveled to Greenville, SC Friday night to face Bob Jones University. The game against the Bruins was the Screaming Eagle's first region game of the season. The Screaming Eagle's were not able to pull off the win resulting in the final score being 2-3.
The Bruins had a stronger first set with a 5-2 lead. The Screaming Eagles were able to gain a few points due to simple errors made by the Bruins. Unforualney, the Screaming Eagles were unable to pull off the win. The first set score was 16-25.
The second set was a back and forth affair between both sides. Both sides were able to cover their courts and played great defense. Natalie Thompson (FR/Clarkesville, GA) (FR/Clarkesville, GA) had a great game defensively totaling with 16 digs for the night. The Screaming Eagles pulled off the victory 25-22.
The third set was very strong for the Screaming Eagles, leading the game 7-1. The Bruins had a hard time keeping up with the Screaming Eagles. The Screaming Eagles played great offense and were able to hold on to their lead 25-20. Kaitlin Weidner (SR/Corry, PA) (SR/Corry, PA) was the top scorer finishing the game with a total of 14 kills.
The fourth and fifth set was tough for both teams. As each point was crucial to pulling off the win. Multiple times throughout the fourth set both teams were tied. The Bruins were able to pull off the win for the remaining two sets.
Head Coach Selina Slate stated, "for a match to go 5 sets, you know both teams are playing amazing volleyball! We played hard and gave it our all. We are a young team and each match is more experience for each of our players which is only going to make us stronger. We are proud of our ladies and thankful that they are continuing to play together and with such unity".
