High Point, NC.- The Screaming Eagles traveled to High Point, NC. to face Laurel University. The game was back and forth between the two sides, with the Screaming Eagles striking first with two goals in the first half. Kimberly Berry (FR/Vientiane, Laos) followed a shot from Cari Ballard (JR/Dakar, Senegal) on the outside and was able to put the ball in the back of the net to record her first collegiate goal. The Screaming Eagles were not done scoring, as Kaley Vickers (JR/Toccoa, GA) finished a ball from Marisol Gutierrez (JR/Clayton, GA) at the top of the 18 to push the score to 2-1 at the end of the first half.
The Screaming Eagles continued to possess sharply in the offensive third and were able to open up many chances on goal as they scored three more goals in the second half. Kimberly Berry lost no energy in the half, as she scored two more goals to earn the first hat trick of her young career. Marisol Gutierrez was able to earn a goal of her own, as she slotted a ball right past the keeper to score off of a Brooke Loggins (FR/Clarkesville, Georgia) assist.
The Screaming Eagle's defense had a lot of work to do in the game, as the Lions were desperately trying to keeping up with the scoring flurry on the other end of the field. Facing their biggest challenge of the season, Captain Briana Koser (JR/Flowery Branch, GA) and team stepped up to the plate to preserve the lead and earn a 5-3 win in the end.
"I am very proud to see the team begin to work well together in the offensive third of the field," stated Head Coach Kaelyn Watson. "We possessed confidently and took some chances that paid off for us. John Wesley was a good side, and it was great for our defense to be challenged as we head into conference play."
The Screaming Eagles hope to continue this winning streak as they look ahead to playing a strong Truett McConnell University on Wednesday in Cleveland, Georgia.
