Toccoa Falls College fought hard against Hiwassee College this weekend, but unfortunately Hiwassee swept the series.
In the first game of the series, Toccoa Falls College made a promising lead putting up four runs against Hiwassee College. In the first inning the lead was behind Zach Zillweger (SR/Woodstock, GA)'s two-run homerun. But unfortunately, that was all that TFC could put up on the board in the first game. Hiwassee College scored two runs in the bottom of the first, two in the bottom of the fifth (tying up the game 4-4), and taking the game in the bottom of the eighth 5-4.
In the second game of the series, Toccoa Falls College fell behind early as Hiwassee College took the lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the fourth inning, Jeb Wilkinson (FR/Lexington, SC) grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Nathan Stanley (SR/Lake Placid, FL). The game was close with the score being 2-1 as we entered the fifth inning, but Hiwassee College took a substantial lead in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs. Unfortunately, that was too much for Toccoa Falls College to handle, and could not come back losing the second game 7-3.
In the third game of the series, Hiwassee College took the game away from TFC early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the fourth, Zach Zillweger singled on a ground ball to left field scoring Brandon Tamayo (FR/Lexington, SC) making the score 2-1. Later in the inning, Jesse Thomas (SO/Lavonia, GA) grounded into a fielder's choice which scored Zach Zillweger. The game was tied 2-2 going into the top of the fifth, but Hiawassee's bats exploded as they managed to score two runs in the fifth, four runs in the sixth, and five runs in the eighth ending the game 13-2.
